About Me

Clare Anvar BSc (Hons), MSc

Clare Anvar

Since qualifying as a massage therapist in 2004, I have always had a diverse private practice, based in Matfield. For the first few years, I worked for an HIV charity, giving therapies to people in their homes and also studied Alternative Approaches to Healthcare at Thames Valley University. From there, I gained a scholarship to study a BSc (Hons) Health Sciences: Remedial Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy at the University of Westminster. During this time, I concentrated on helping people with complex pain conditions, cancer-related dysfunction, post-traumatic stress disorder, breathing pattern dysfunction, surgical recovery and immune, autoimmune and lymphatic issues. I continued on at Westminster, to study an MSc Complementary Medicine and worked as a complementary therapist in Cancer Services, at University College London Hospital, for three years. My MSC dissertation was about lymphoedema clinics in the UK, which I presented a poster of, at the British Lymphology Society conference 2015, where I found a family of likeminded, dedicated professionals and began to specialise more and more. I underwent further, extensive training in Advanced Lymphoedema Management three types of Manual lymphatic Drainage.

I then worked at Horder Healthcare in Tunbridge Wells, with orthopaedic patients, before moving to look after post-cosmetic surgery clients for Mr Marc Pacifico at Purity Bridge, in Tunbridge Wells, where I still have a clinic.

I now specialise in lymphoedema and lipoedema management. I continue to study and upgrade my skills every two years. I have recently finished a pioneering course in Lipoedema Assessment and Management. I write academic articles and present at UK and international conferences about my work. I became Clinical Therapy Advisor for Lipoedema UK in January 2023, where I began the Healthcare Professionals’ and Clinicians’ forum.

As a full-time clinical therapist, finding and addressing the link between mental and emotional stress and physical symptoms is intrinsic to finding solutions in many cases. I believe in facilitating change, by not only using evidence-based techniques, but by giving my patients the knowledge and skills to improve their own circumstances and to manage their conditions more effectively. If I can help you in any way, don’t hesitate to contact me.
